WELCOME TO WOOD WILDLIFE STUDIO

About Us

ABOUT US

With almost 20 years of experience in the art and science of taxidermy, I specialize in preserving the beauty and intricacies of the natural world. I learned what it meant to honor the animal through my love for hunting and the outdoors at an early age.

I’ve honed my skills through formal training and hands-on experience, mastering techniques that emphasize detail, accuracy, and respect for the animals. I have a passion for creating lifelike representations that honor the wildlife I work with. Whether it’s a cherished hunting trophy or a unique piece for a museum display, I strive to bring each specimen to life with meticulous attention to detail.

In addition to craftsmanship, I am committed to ethical practices, sourcing specimens responsibly and ensuring that every project reflects a deep respect for its natural environment. I enjoy collaborating with customers to create custom pieces that capture the essence of the customer’s experience and the beauty of the animal kingdom.

I look forward to the privilege of working with you.

OUR STORY

Based in San Angelo, Texas, Wood Wildlife Studio began through Chris Wood’s love of hunting and the outdoors. Chris grew up in the mountains of northern California, where he developed a deep respect and passion for wildlife and all that nature encompassed. His journey into taxidermy began with a fascination for nature an appreciation for its delicate balance.

In 2003, Chris relocated to the great state of Texas and worked as a forest firefighter until 2007.

In 2008, Chris began doing wholesale taxidermy work out of his garage for other taxidermists until he built his reputation and his own clientele. As the business grew, Chris created his own shop and Wood Wildlife Studio was born.

In 2015, Wood Wildlife Studio relocated to our current location at 1090 Capstone Road in San Angelo, Texas with the purchase of a 3,600 square foot building. Chris brought in taxidermists, finishers, and other artists with experience and knowledge of various aspects of taxidermy and appreciation for all the unique qualities each piece means to the individual customer.

In 2024, Wood Wildlife Studio continued to grow with an added 1,000 square foot expansion.

Throughout all of it, Chris never wavered from his original vision for creating works of wildlife art that uniquely express the story of each individual hunt and hunter. Chris and his Wood Wildlife Studio team have always sought to create unique and creative trophies, displays, and trophy rooms.

Wood Wildlife Studio is a professional company whose employees take pride in astounding each and every customer and the Wood Wildlife Studio team will strive to truly make every customer feel special.

When Chris is not working in the studio, you can find him exploring the great outdoors, where his love for wildlife continues to inspire his craft. He enjoys sharing his knowledge with others through workshops and community events.

Chris is an active member of Safari Club International and the Texas Taxidermy Association where he is an advocate for advancing the image of taxidermy and improving the image of the sportsmanship of hunting.

Chris has two amazing children who have supported Wood Wildlife Studio throughout its growth. Dakota is honorably serving our country in the United States Army. In December 2024, Meleah will graduate with honors from Texas Tech University.

The most recent addition to the Wood Wildlife Studio team is Chelsea, Chris’s adoring wife. They have been married since September 2019.

If you’re looking for a skilled taxidermy studio that will combine artistry with a passion for nature, the Wood Wildlife Studio team would love to help you preserve your cherished memories. Let’s create something extraordinary together!

Our Expansion

Of course, the little studio couldn’t possibly house everyone comfortably. The hunt for another location with more space and capability for rapid expansion began. On October 21, 2015 the new studio was purchased. With 3600 square feet of space to work with, employees will have individual work stations. The increased space will allow for completion of larger life size pieces as well. Should Wood Wildlife Studio continue to grow, the new building easily allows for expansion.
